Tigers have donated tickets for the Development XV match against Worcester on December 10, a training jersey signed by club captain Martin Corry and some club yearbooks to IAW and organisers are working with partners to bring together people to attend the match.

Riaz Ravat, one of the local volunteer organisers for IAW, said: “These generous gifts symbolise just how committed Leicester Tigers are to building community relations and healthier communities in our city.

“The majority of the children will have never been to a rugby match before so this in itself will be a major achievement.

“Awarding the tickets will involve twinning Muslim children with children from other backgrounds from across Leicester. This will boost efforts to strengthen understanding, broaden horizons and create friendships which we hope can be sustained in the future.”

Tigers community manager Scott Clarke said: “We are really pleased to be involved in IAW for the first time. We recognise how sport can be a force for unity across different communities and trust that our awards will enable strong relationships between young people from different backgrounds. 

“As well as strengthening communities off the pitch, I hope that our involvement results in greater interest and participation in rugby, following on from the recent successes of Leicester Tigers and the England national team”.

Other activities taking place as part of IAW 2007 include library exhibitions, a comedy tour, musical events and dialogue group meetings. Other supporters this year include Leicestershire County Council, Leicester City Council and the Federation of Muslim Organizations Leicestershire.
