Leicester Tigers staged their first challenge competition at under-15 level over the weekend of England Saxons’ visit to Welford Road, with Newbury taking away the top honours.
Thanks to the support of the Sanne Group, the Jersey-based trust and fund management group, under-15 squads from Newbury, Lutterworth, Kenilworth and Jersey Rugby Clubs participated in the tournament based at the Oval Park training ground and then in the finals at Welford Road on Saturday.

Tigers community manager Scott Clarke said: “Newbury were worthy winners but all four teams did themselves proud with their performances over the weekend.

“Although the final score of 50-21 was a convincing one for Newbury, it was a competitive and exciting finale to the day’s events. In the other match, Lutterworth took a 17-point lead against Kenilworth but a spirited second-half performance brought the score back to 17-14 in an entertaining game.

“I know all of the players will treasure running out at Welford Road for the final fixtures.

“We are very grateful for the support of Tony Pitcher and Sanne Group in making it such a big weekend for the four teams. Thank you also to the four teams for their enthusiastic support.”

All of the teams were inspired to produce their best rugby after parading in front of a 10,000-strong Welford Road crowd before the England Saxons match on Friday evening.
