George was a key figure in Tigers’ Guinness Premiership and EDF Energy Cup triumphs in 2006/07, as well as their push to the Heineken Cup Final. By the close of the season, George had made 22 appearances, bringing his total to 135 since joining Tigers in 2000.
Last season also saw him cement his place within the England squad, resulting in his selection for the 2007 World Cup in France. He scored a try against Australia in his first start for his country in the summer of 2006 having also been on the scoresheet on his England A debut back in 1998. At the time of his first appearance for the A side, George was plying his trade with Saracens, with whom he won the Pilkington Cup in that same year. He spent five years at Vicarage Road before taking a break from rugby to travel Australia and the USA. Although he had to bide his time after joining Tigers due to competition from Richard Cockerill and Dorian West, George went on to become the 196th player in the club’s history to make 100 starts for the first team when he wore the No.2 shirt in last season’s Guinness Premiership Final win over Gloucester.
George Chuter, Jordan Crane and Ollie Smith will start for England Saxons in this Saturday's Barclays Churchill Cup Final against Scotland A in Chicago.
The weekend's international matches saw a total of 12 Tigers in action across senior Tests, the Barclays Churchill Cup and the IRB Junior World Championships.
