Openside flanker Neil Back was one of England's outstanding players during the 2003 Rugby World Cup; starting six of the seven games in the tournament, scoring two tries along the way the only fixture he missed was the pool game against Uruguay. However one of the most memorable images of him from the World Cup was as he held his four-year-old daughter, Olivia, during the medal ceremony.

For England he has now been involved in three World Cup campaigns ('95, '99, '03) as well as Six 5/6 Nations campaigns ('98 -'03) and has captained his country on four occasions, including the Cook Cup victory against Australia, during 2001/02, the last occasion being the day of his 50th England cap. One of five Tigers players selected for the British Lions party to Australia in summer 2001, that was Neil's second Lions tour having been to South Africa in 1997.

Neil was educated at Woodlands School in Coventry, where he played football and cricket before opting for rugby. He went on to represent England at U18, U21 and 'A' level before making his full England debut against Scotland in 1994. He has also played regularly for the Barbarians and tasted World Cup Sevens rugby. In 1998, Neil was named RFU "Player of the Year", and in 1999 the Professional Rugby Players Association's "Players' Player of the Year" when he was also the league's top try-scorer with 16!
