Ben began the 2007/08 season on World Cup duty with England after an impressive end to the 2006/07 campaign. Already a World Cup winner in 2003, Ben was closing in on 50 international caps at the start of the tournament. Now an MBE, Ben made his Tigers debut in September 1999 against Northampton and has since gone on to make over 200 first-team appearances for the club. He started 22 games during Tigers’ historic double-winning season, scoring two tries, including a stunning individual effort in the EDF Energy Cup Final in April. That game was Ben’s 200th for Tigers, while the Heineken Cup semi-final win over Llanelli Scarlets at the Walkers Stadium was his 50th European appearance for the club.
Ben was a member of the 2005 British and Irish Lions squad that toured New Zealand in 2005, while he has also represented England at U-18, U-19, Students, U-21 and A level. Prior to joining Tigers, Ben played for Waterloo and Queensland University in Australia. He was educated at Merchant Taylor's School before attending Loughborough University, where he obtained a degree in Sports Science.
