| Tom returned to Tigers in the summer of 2004 for his second spell at the club, having previously spent two years within the academy system. He made his Premiership debut against Gloucester in the first week of November 2004, going on to score a hat-trick in his very next game against Worcester. He started 22 games for Tigers last season, making a further five appearances as a replacement, scoring 16 tries in the process. That tally saw him finish as the club’s top try-scorer for the second successive season.
He was named Guinness Premiership Young Player of the Year and Land Rover Discovery of the Year in 2005/06 and is the proud owner of a Commonwealth Games silver medal having been a key member of the England Sevens squad that finished second in Melbourne in 2006. After starring on the international Sevens circuit, Tom made his senior England debut on the same day as club colleague Louis Deacon against Samoa in November 2005.
He played two games on loan with Bedford in 2006/07 before returning to the Tigers team to play an important role in a hugely successful season for the club. As well as grabbing a brace of tries in the EDF Energy Cup Final victory over the Ospreys at Twickenham, Tom scored the late, match-winning try against Stade Francais in last season’s Heineken Cup quarter-final at Welford Road.
