| Freddie gained his first international experience playing for his country on the 1991 tour to New Zealand. He was consequently selected for Samoa’s ‘91 World Cup squad but did not feature in any of the matches. From ‘92 to ‘95 he toured with Samoa to Australia and South Africa, and was included in their ‘95 World Cup squad, playing against South Africa in the quarter final.
Later that year Freddie turned professional for the Halifax Rugby League team, making 57 Super League appearances for them in two years, scoring an impressive 26 tries. In 1999 he joined St Helens RL and made 35 appearances, scoring eleven tries. Freddie signed with Tigers in June 2000 and quickly became a firm favourite at Welford Road with his hard-hitting tackles, and famous dreadlock hairstyle.
He has certainly made a huge impact both on and off the field and was recalled to the Samoan national side, touring with them in the summer of 2002 when he became 1 of 3 brothers to play for Samoa in the same test. He was selected to tour New Zealand with Samoa last summer, but prevented from doing so by an injury, which also denied him a place in Samoa's world cup squad and curtailed his start to this season.
