The EDF Energy National Schools Rugby Programme (NSRP) is a three-year community partnership with all 12 Guinness Premiership clubs that will run alongside the company’s sponsorship of the EDF Energy Cup.

Now in the closing stages of the second year, the Leicester Tigers community team have visited a total 46 primary schools within the inner-city area of Coventry. The programme has been a great success in the area, with over 3000 children being introduced to tag rugby for the first time.

Not only has the programme given the children an introduction to Rugby Union through the tag rugby version of the game, but it has also ensured that teachers received quality coaching, as well as providing equipment for the school to continue their participation in the sport.

As part of the programme Leicester Tigers have been able to take part in several showpiece events in the professional world of Rugby Union. For the last 2 seasons, a primary school involved in the programme have played a demonstration match of tag rugby and provided the guard of honour for the EDF semi-final and final games at the Millennium Stadium and Twickenham, giving over 40 children the experience of a life-time.

With one year to run on the programme, the Leicester Tigers community team look forward to seeing another 30 primary schools take advantage of this fantastic opportunity supplied by EDF Energy and Premier Rugby.
